Structural Support for Surrounding Teeth

Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth. They help you achieve a great smile without gaps, and provide structural support for the surrounding teeth. They’re a great way to help maintain your oral health, restore your ability to speak and chew effectively, and bring your gorgeous smile back.

Ashfield Dental Centre offers dental implants using Sydney’s finest technicians with the highest-quality materials to develop and create dental implants which look and feel stunning for years to come.

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are artificial roots that are surgically placed into the jawbone. They are used to hold a replacement tooth which is precision-moulded to perfectly replace your missing natural tooth. The implant’s root sits completely below the gumline so your new tooth will look completely natural.

The implant stands on its own and doesn’t affect the teeth around it unlike a dental bridge for example. It also and has great stability and is less vulnerable to decay and damage than normal teeth, letting you continue doing and eating what you love without worrying about the effect on your smile.

A variety of factors can contribute to whether or not dental implants are right for you. For your implant to be successful and function as it should, you you will need to have healthy gums, adequate bone to support the implant and have no underlying health conditions which could affect the way your implant functions. How are dental implants affixed?

Getting a perfect implant can’t be done in just one appointment. it requires multiple visits to your dentist over several months to make sure your tooth will be restored as best as it can be.

First, you’ll need to have X-rays and impressions of your jaw and teeth taken to determine how much bone structure, gum tissue, and space you have available for the implant. If your dentist determines that you’re suitable for an implant you will then move on to the implant process.

The implant itself will be placed in your mouth under a local anaesthetic in your dentist’s office. We then leave it in your gum for about six months to allow the bone to grow around and bond to it. Your new artificial tooth can be moulded and prepared in this time. Once the six months have passed, your new artificial tooth (a dental crown) can be attached to the implant in another visit to your dentist. Your new tooth will then function as well as your natural teeth.

What are the advantages?

Dental implants have a lot of benefits over other popular tooth replacement methods. They maintain the natural structure of your mouth, can help to prevent the bone loss which occurs after a tooth is extracted and unlike bridges they don’t damage the surrounding teeth.

Unlike most dentures, they don’t need to be removed and scrubbed with specialised cleaners. You can clean them much like you do your normal teeth, with twice-daily brushing, regular flossing and regular professional cleaning by your dentist. They’re also a perfect fit to your mouth, making them more pain-free, more functional and better looking than many other tooth replacement solutions.
