By submitting the form, you are giving permission for the clinic to determine if your child is eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Scheme, and thus $1095 worth of General Dental over two calendar years.

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) commenced on 1 January 2014. Thanks to the Medicare run schedule, eligible children can get essential dental care to the value of $1095 over a consecutive two year period with no out-of-pocket costs to their parents or guardians. However, not every Australian child qualifies for the initiative.

Is my child covered?

Your child is eligible for CBDS through Medicare if:

They are within the age range (2-17) for at least part of the year
They qualify for Medicare
You receive Family Tax Benefit Part A, Parenting payment or Double Orphan Pension payments for at least some of that year.

Your child will qualify for CBDS services even if they don’t meet the criteria for part of a year. They will be able to get benefits when they’re 18 if they were 17 for at least one day of the year. Not all dentists will provide services under the CDBS, but any valid procedures performed at Ashfield Dental Centre can be covered by the schedule if they are within your assigned budget.

What's included

The CBDS covers lots of basic services which are generally deemed necessary for good oral health. These include:

Children’s orthodontic procedures like for example braces aren’t covered by the CBDS, and neither are cosmetic procedures including crowns and bridges, veneers, implants and dentures, including those used to restore broken or damaged teeth. Any work needed in a hospital environment including major procedures or wisdom teeth extractions are not covered by CDBS. If you are unsure if your procedure is covered, just ask your dentist or a member of our friendly team.

Using your child’s CBDS allocation

To use your child’s $1095 allocation, just mention to the reception staff that you’d like to use CBDS when you book your appointment at Ashfield Dental Centre. They will ask for your child’s name, address, and Medicare number to verify that they are eligible and check that you still have available funds.

You can use your child’s allocation by spending it on any covered medical procedures over the two calendar years that it’s valid for. Your dentist will explain any probable expenses and get your written consent before they start any procedures, so you’ll always have the final say in how your child’s allocation is spent. If the dentist recommends more procedures, they will outline them and get your consent in writing again at your next appointment. Your dentist can also let you know how much funding you have left by checking online, so remember to ask if you are unsure.
